This was a makeup shooting project within the framework of IDEP Barcelona Advertising Photography Master. It is a series of portraits showing the skills of makeup artist under a sort of “christian concept”. The model is a very good friend of mine, whose physical appearance was exactly what I wanted.
These photos are part of my ongoing phase as a portrait photographer, mixing artistic and experimental facial makeup with visual details. The goal was to create a dark atmosphere of mysticism emphasising the makeup and the garment of the model. The makeup artist created all the wardrobe and the cross crown.
For the studio I used a Canos EOS 5D Mark IV, a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM and professional studio lighting. For post-production I only used Adobe Photoshop. Lightroom could have been useful to make images cohesive on a few tones but this time, I prefered being more accurate this the postproduction.
Photoshop is useful for details, color, skin imperfections, hair, adjust to exact tones that I had in mind. For the skin I used frequency separation, which allows to correct the imperfections of the skin easily.
In light setup I used only one lamp with beauty dish and reflector behind model. I always retouch very precisely all my photos in Adobe Photoshop.
People loved this project and the makeup artist was very proud with the result. They couldn’t believe the model and my friend were the same person. It resulted in a very visual shooting and one of my favorites projects.
The points in favor that people liked the most were the use of color, the poses in the portraits, the styling and the lighting of the set.
